In our opening there are only two characters used. Lily Redman as 'Lily' and Jack Moore as 'Will'. We followed Propps theory  and had an protagonist and an antagonist and that the main character is the 'hero' of the story. We also used the idea of a 'damsel in distress' which is a common theme within films however from the narrative in the opening sequence the audience becomes aware that the 'damsel in distress' and the 'hero' of the story become the same person. This strongly links to the convention of a journey which is present in many coming of age films as the film shows the protagonist changing and becoming and stronger person  in order to escape and figure out what has happened we tried to show this through showing her scared and confused at the start then more determined and running away towards the end. Additionally our opening sequence includes short shots of a party which the audience presume the protagonists have been at this links to coming of age codes and conventions as a house party is seen as 'typical' teenage behaviour and partying and alcohol are extremely common themes within the coming of age genre. We also used the idea of binary opposites in our opening for example good and evil although the audience don't know much about the characters from the opening they are aware that they have been victims to a crime leading them to believe they are good and the criminal is the antagonist of the film. Our characters are also covered in blood and bruises to reinforce the idea of  horror as gore and 'blood and guts' often features heavily in horror films for example the 'Saw' films however we didn't include too much due to the age rating of our film.
